5 Books of the Bible that ALL Christians Should Study and Share with Others

I read a report today that really scared me because it detailed how daily readership of the Bible has hit an all-time low in the United States.

Sadly, this has been an on going trend for the past 20 years, most of my life, and something has to be done ASAP to help encourage more and more people to pick up the Bible and read it; not just when we’re attending Church services, but at home, or the park, or anywhere we like to read.

What’s baffling to me is that the Bible has everything in it that a great book or novel has in it today: betrayal, murder, and even crazy twists.

If you’ve never read the Bible, then trust me, you’re REALLY missing out. There’s more than one reason why it’s referred to as the ‘Good Book.’

It really is a good book, a great book actually, and more people, Christians and non-Christians alike, need to pick it up on a daily basis and read it.

Why Should We Read The Bible More?

When we read the Bible we’re getting to know God. His Word is alive and changes us when we read it.

I’m asking everyone reading this to try and get someone you know, including yourself, to give these books in the Bible a read this week:

#1 – Book of Job

One day the angels came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan also came with them. The LORD said to Satan, “Where have you come from?”
Satan answered the LORD, “From roaming throughout the earth, going back and forth on it.”

Then the LORD said to Satan, “Have you considered my servant Job? There is no one on earth like him; he is blameless and upright, a man who fears God and shuns evil.” Job 1:6-8

Just reading Job is eye-opening. We get a glimpse of what God will allow in our lives. If we read carefully, we see God didn’t make bad things happen to Job but He did allow them. The same is true with us.

#2 – Book of Genesis

And I will put enmity between you and the woman and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel.” Genesis 3:15

God makes clothes to cover Adam and Eve when they recognize their nakedness. It’s the first animal sacrifice and it’s to cover them because of their sin of disobedience.

The LORD God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife and clothed them. Genesis 3:21

Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross later is the ultimate covering for each of us. There are so many incredible ways to see Jesus in the book of Genesis. God already had His plan for us set in motion.

#3 – Book of Daniel

The king said to Daniel, “Surely your God is the God of gods and the Lord of kings and a revealer of mysteries, for you were able to reveal this mystery.” Daniel 2:47

It’s amazing how God worked through him and gave him not only the meaning of the King’s dream but showed Daniel the actual dream, too. His life and the lives of others depended on it.

#4 – Gospel of John

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. John 1:1

The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. John 1:14

The Gospel of John brings everything together and ties it up neatly with a bow. Like any well-written book, the first sentence is captivating.

#5 – Book of Revelation

Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear it and take to heart what is written in it, because the time is near. Revelation 1:3

Sometimes, we just need a few words of peace and comfort from the Bible. If you’re seeking comfort then head to the book of Psalms.

What Are Your Favorite and Most Beloved Parts of the Bible

What makes you want to pick up the Bible everyday and read it? What about the Bible should we share with others?

Please let me know so I can share these with my friends and family, because my favorite parts of the Bible may not be yours, and I’m always intrigued by what makes people want to read the Bible everyday like I do!

Let’s do our best to help booster readership of the Bible as much as we can!

  1. God really speaks to me though His Word. There is no way I am smart enough to understand what I do, so it has to be Him. He gives me deeper meanings or whole new ones even on the same passages. Thank you for your encouragement in getting into God’s Word. That is so good to see today.

  2. My favorite Old Testament book is Genesis – so much there that lays the foundation for everything else. My favorite New Testament book is Acts. It links the gospels with the epistles and Revelation. (Can you imagine the NT without Acts? We would be so confused. “Church at where?” “Who’s Paul?” etc.) My favorite chapters are Isaiah 53 in the OT and Romans 8 in the NT.
Years ago, I decided to memorize longer passages of Scripture. It bothered me the way verses were being quoted out of context, so I committed to memory some popular verses and the ones around them. I started with the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5-7) and chapters like [my favorites] and some Psalms. Then I learned James, Philippians, I John (and added II and II John, since they could both fit onto one page 😉 ) and I Peter. Since then I have just been reading through the Bible, and when I come to something I used to know by heart, I’ll review it until I get it back. Besides wanting to know Scripture in context, I have always been aware that there are places in the world where people don’t have Bibles, and if someday ours are taken from us, we will have to rely on what we remember.
    Blessings!

PS I clicked on “CONTINUE,” thinking it was part of your post, but it was part of an advertisement. I got all kinds of alarm signals and “WARNING-WARNING-WARNING” and emergency signs filling up my screen, and my computer locked up. I had to shut everything down for a while and turn it back on. I see that “CONTINUE” button is in multiple places on this post, and needless to say, I avoided them after that. I’m thinking you would know more I do about what happened and what to do, since you’re a “tech nerd,” and I’m … the opposite (technologically challenged). I just wanted to let you know. It may have just been my computer, but it was disturbing.

  3. I’m glad you included the Revelation. People ste skittish about it but with good teaching it is a powerful resource in challenging times. I think that what it tells us about who Jesus is needs to be the focus. Even with difficult passages, we find the awesome and gentle Lord on our side.

  4. I don’t understand the address wordpress gave me but I write the ThomCath. Thanks for commenting at my blog. One of my favorite Bible books is called Hosea but Osee in some versions of the Bible. His relationship with his wife as I understand is like Israel’s relationship with God, basically unfaithful!!! Also its probably a good thing you did not take the silicon valley job because they are pretty opinionated about religion regardless of your actual skill. I’m hoping Elon Musk truly is a free speech absolutist and we can get another fundamentally un-censored media connection not banned for our religious or political views. Tagging stuff like pornographic, white supremacist or misinfomation is fine but the user should be able to select no porn, no white supremacist or no misinformation but they should also be able to see all if they want to!!!

  6. The Spirit is speaking the same thing to the Bride… to us…

Our need of the scriptures… I just read Song of Solomon 3:8 that speaks of the ‘expert’ men of war that held their sword (bibles) on their thigh

They were humbler than us… they kept Gods word ‘nigh’ to their thighs.

I wrote about it recently as a blog post…

I’m encouraged God is giving you the same burden sister as He is me and others.

Collectively we need to return to the scriptures!💙🤍📖✝️🙏

  7. I’m personally attached to the Book of Psalms, especially the ones that were written by David, because they are formed like prayers that we ourselves can apply in our daily lives and circumstances. We can relate to God just like David did because there’s a little of David in each one of us. I like to carry a tiny back pocket edition with me so I can pull it out wherever I am and whenever I feel compelled to during the day.

    1. God is “enthroned” upon our praises – the Hebrew word for praises in that verse from Psalm 22 is the same root as the Hebrew title for the Psalms! Glad you keep them with you.

  10. I thank you for sharing your thoughts and insights with us, I find it hard to believe that many people aren’t reading the Bible when you see the number of posts in groups pertaining to it but I think that you are right.
I think that we have in the UK suffered a decline in the number of people going to church and therefore the feeling of need in reading the Bible lessens, out of sight out of mind
My 2 favourite books of the Bible are Psalms and the gospel of Luke.
I hope that you will continue to feel God’s love and blessings and guidance from him in sharing his love, grace and majesty with you 🙏❤️

  13. I hope you all understand that Christianity, and your idea of it, has been co-opted by what we now call the “Religious Right.” A movement that stands squarely behind one of the most corrupt, amoral criminals ever installed in the Oval Office. A hypocritical group who still stands behind a serial adulterer, casino mogul, and all-purpose bigot. If Christianity is love, is it loving to ban transgender people from the military? To prevent gay people from marrying? Is it loving for the church to send missionaries to other countries, but refuse to accept these same “foreigners” into their homeland? Is it loving to be silent about vilifying LGBTQ individuals, oppressing people of color, deporting immigrants, denying refugees, abusing children, and assaulting women? This is a religion that thrives on fear and oppression. I have to wonder what Jesus would say about the way religion treats the poor, the homeless, the hungry, the sick, the elderly? Where is the religious right on all that? No need to answer…I know the answer already. The Religious Right is on record wanting to defund programs such as Social Security, Medicare, welfare, food stamps, healthcare, etc. Oh, and by the way, here is some of the choice cruelty in this book you all think is so wonderful; https://skepticsannotatedbible.com/cruelty/nt_list.html

    1. Did I say anything mean or negative to you on one of your posts? Do any of my posts attack the LGBTQ community? The answer to both questions is “no”. So I am confused as to why you wrote such a negative comment to me.

I appreciate your passion, but most Christians are very loving and kind people. I don’t know why you are attacking all of us as being the same. We are all individuals that believe in God. We are among the first to donate to help others in need, and we volunteer all of the time to help others. Before you attack all people of faith you may want to spend some time with us and then make a judgement. But I do appreciate you, and I hope you can find a place in your heart for acceptance of people you don’t understand just as the LGBT community wants everyone to accept them for who they are.

Are all Christians “good”? No. Are all members of the LGBTQ community “good”. No. But the majority of Christians are indeed “good”, and I’m sure the majority of people in the LGBTQ community are also “good”.

      1. Well said, my friend. It’s so much easier for people to make broad, sweeping judgments of others rather than discover the truth for themselves. I appreciate your candid honesty and truthfulness. We don’t win battles by attacking. You’re right–battles for people’s souls are won by love.

      2. Thank you! I was just very confused because as to why she is okay judging others while wanting everyone else to NEVER judge anyone in the LGTBQ community. Everyone in life has their own obstacles to overcome and you don’t need to tear down other people’s beliefs in order to make you feel better about yourself. I did pray for her though, and I hope she finds love in her heart one day. She could have been having a bad day and needed to vent, and I don’t take the things she said personally…if she had some Christian friends in her life she wouldn’t feel the way she does. But that;s just my opinion 🙂

    2. We can love an individual without loving the behavior. God loves everyone but he does not love some of our behavior. The New Testament gives a wealth of guidance on God-expected behavior. All have sinned, but our fate is determined by our repentance, and acceptance of Jesus as Lord and Savior. A Christian’s role is given by the two commandments of Jesus – Love God and Love your neighbor, doing so fulfills the Law and the Prophets. 1 Corinthians 13 defines Love. I will not judge you, please don’t judge my Bible-based beliefs.

  18. Christiantechnerd, just read your post on the five books every person should read and enjoyed your choices and why htey should be read. Why do I read it? It is God’s revelation of himself and my journey into the heart of God began by reading first the New Testament where Jesus revealed the Father to me. Then reading the Old Testament allow me to want what God promises us – life, peace, joy and his presence every day. The bible speaks to my heart. Thanks for doing what you do. Deacon Dave

  20. GREAT BLOG!! It’s true, it’s hard to pick just one or even a few but one of my favs is the book of Proverbs! It is a beautiful contrast of right and wrong thinking and behavior. Having read the Bible from Genesis to Revelation multiple times, reading the entire Bible is something every Christian should do at least once in their lifetime. I know I would certainly be compelled to read something relevant to the time when I stand before the author of the Bible and give an account of what I did or didn’t do based on its content – just a thought (naked and ashamed before God is not appealing) 😉

  21. Speaking to a Tech Nerd, and being one myself, the interesting bit is that digital imaging had revealed formerly obfuscated parts of Scripture. Yeah, the geeks helped complete the Bible. Francis Bacon and James 1 & V1 missed out because they used kerosene lanterns instead of Fujifilm, perhaps. As stated in Revelation, a seal was broken, the book opened. Imagine that: obviously blank pages revealed hidden handwritten texts. Isaiah 53 became complete after the Qumran scrolls were discovered and studied.

  23. Please take this as constructive feedback. The first picture throws me off. You are a very beautiful woman. The picture sets a different tone than I would expect for the title.

  24. Amen to this! I absolutely agree with the fact that more people should be reading the bible. With this secular world that we live in though, the only way that people will read the bible is if we pray to God to help this nation to become the Christian nation that it needs to be. If you love your country, you should pray for it. Pray that God helps to remove iniquity from the nation. Pray that God helps to purify the nation. Pray to God to help the leaders to become the person that God wants them to be. Thank you for sharing this. May God bless you!

  25. Thank you. The Passion Translation is an informative read with all the footnotes. For new readers of the Bible I suggest starting with the Gospel of John and reading to the end. The Old Testament needs to be read from a New Testament perspective. The Crucifixion marks a shift, a fulfillment of the Old Testament and the start of New Testament life. Reading a chapter of Proverbs according to the day of the month will open new understandings of wisdom. Yes, there is so much in the Bible.

  26. I read the Bible daily for years because it grows my communion with God, guides my decision making, shapes my heart for sanctification, prepares me to encourage others and defend the faith and teaches me how to pray for things of eternal value. Of the five books, only Genesis would have been on my top 5, however the top 5 would be different for some depending on their spiritual maturity. For example, I would not have a new believer reading these 5 but would rather start with Luke, Acts, First John and Psalms. I wrote a Bible reading plan back in January for folks based on spiritual maturity. God bless!

  27. The Bible always has the right scripture and word for me at the right time everytime I open my Bible. As though someone actually prepared that particular scripture just for me. God is amazing. All the time and that amazes me all the time because I am not worthy of his kindness. Beautiful article I enjoyed every bit of it very insightful and timely. Thank you @thechristiantechnerd you are a blessing
