We don’t observe the Old Testament Law today, but we can still fall into the same mindset when we try to live according to our works. If we approach the Throne based on how much we read the Bible, go to church, give, visit, or witness, we do the same things the Pharisees did. This works-based mentality means we are dependent upon what we do to please God and not on what Jesus has already done.
Good works should be a fruit of our relationship with God, not a means to try to obtain His acceptance. Nothing we do can bring more affection to us from our Father.
The Word as flesh fulfilled the Law. Faith in what He did is what saves us. We are to rely on His holiness and not our works.

The term “fulfilled” as used in Matt.5:17 can also be translated “perfected” and even amplified. One example is in Matt. 5:28. Jesus’ first advent did fulfill prophecy, complete a phase in the great mystery, level up and satisfy the requirement for redemption, and deliver a Gospel that was good news. Jesus Christ became the final sacrifice for sin, for who else could lay down his life for the creation other than the creator himself and establish the resurrection by having the power to pick that life up again. That grace is not a license to sin as many do in the mainstream. Our Lord and Savior paid the ultimate price for sin which is transgression of the law (commandments). When we accept that price, should we not show a “proof of purchase”? How does one do that? Jesus told us in John 14:15. Those commandments are the same ones the Word (Logos) that became flesh spoke to Moses from the burning bush, while the Father (Theos) wrote them in stone with his finger. The Ten Commandments are as much in affect today as they have always been and will forever be. They are the Supreme Law of the Kingdom of Heaven (Universe). One may call them the Constitution of Peace and Love for the liberty of life and the pursuit of happiness. Interesting to note that there are 10 Commandments, 10 Amendments to the U.S. Constitution as a Bill of Rights, and 10 planks to the Communist Manifesto which purpose is to destroy the first two sets of ten. The first two total 20 which is the total number of years Jacob served his Uncle Laban. (Gen. 31:41) Add the other 10 and that totals 30, the number of betrayal. (Matt. 36:15) Was told by a cyber friend (Dianne – The Marshall Report) that I had the gift of numerology. I must confess, I had to look the term up in the dictionary. She was right. I now call it Biblical Numerology. See https://theezekiel33watchman.report/2021/05/26/cosmic-clockworks/ and https://theezekiel33watchman.report/2021/05/27/cosmic-clockworks-ii/

In the teaching of Jesus Christ our works which are called “good works” are what we do in obedience to the commands of King Jesus Christ. To “Come take up your cross and follow me” produces in us the same results that it did in the Apostles and the disciples that Jesus called to follow him in his Gospel. They are to leave our old life behind, to learn of the doctrine taught by Jesus Christ, and to obey all of his commands. Without these good works no one will make it to heaven. While in a Roman prison, the thief on the cross had a true conversion experience. We know this because he defended Jesus from the evil thief on the other cross. He preached a short message to him. He then asked Jesus to remember him in his Kingdom. Only a repented converted person acts like this. Then remember that he was nailed to a cross, he was suffering extreme pain, and unable to do anything more for his King Jesus Christ. His life was at his end. Yet the good works that he did do were enough that Jesus told him, “Today you shall be with me in paradise”. May we all be like the wise servant in the parables of Jesus Christ and shall be watching and waiting for the return of Jesus at all hours and all of the time. Let us not be like the foolish servant who was partying and hurting other people at the hour the Lord returned. He got sent to hell.
