5 Books of the Bible that ALL Christians Should Study and Share with Others

I read a report today that really scared me because it detailed how daily readership of the Bible has hit an all-time low in the United States.

Sadly, this has been an on going trend for the past 20 years, most of my life, and something has to be done ASAP to help encourage more and more people to pick up the Bible and read it; not just when we’re attending Church services, but at home, or the park, or anywhere we like to read.

What’s baffling to me is that the Bible has everything in it that a great book or novel has in it today: betrayal, murder, and even crazy twists.

If you’ve never read the Bible, then trust me, you’re REALLY missing out. There’s more than one reason why it’s referred to as the ‘Good Book.’

It really is a good book, a great book actually, and more people, Christians and non-Christians alike, need to pick it up on a daily basis and read it.

Why Should We Read The Bible More?

When we read the Bible we’re getting to know God. His Word is alive and changes us when we read it.

I’m asking everyone reading this to try and get someone you know, including yourself, to give these books in the Bible a read this week:

#1 – Book of Job

One day the angels came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan also came with them. The LORD said to Satan, “Where have you come from?”
Satan answered the LORD, “From roaming throughout the earth, going back and forth on it.”

Then the LORD said to Satan, “Have you considered my servant Job? There is no one on earth like him; he is blameless and upright, a man who fears God and shuns evil.” Job 1:6-8

Just reading Job is eye-opening. We get a glimpse of what God will allow in our lives. If we read carefully, we see God didn’t make bad things happen to Job but He did allow them. The same is true with us.

#2 – Book of Genesis

And I will put enmity between you and the woman and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel.” Genesis 3:15

God makes clothes to cover Adam and Eve when they recognize their nakedness. It’s the first animal sacrifice and it’s to cover them because of their sin of disobedience.

The LORD God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife and clothed them. Genesis 3:21

Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross later is the ultimate covering for each of us. There are so many incredible ways to see Jesus in the book of Genesis. God already had His plan for us set in motion.

#3 – Book of Daniel

The king said to Daniel, “Surely your God is the God of gods and the Lord of kings and a revealer of mysteries, for you were able to reveal this mystery.” Daniel 2:47

It’s amazing how God worked through him and gave him not only the meaning of the King’s dream but showed Daniel the actual dream, too. His life and the lives of others depended on it.

#4 – Gospel of John

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. John 1:1

The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. John 1:14

The Gospel of John brings everything together and ties it up neatly with a bow. Like any well-written book, the first sentence is captivating.

#5 – Book of Revelation

Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear it and take to heart what is written in it, because the time is near. Revelation 1:3

Sometimes, we just need a few words of peace and comfort from the Bible. If you’re seeking comfort then head to the book of Psalms.

What Are Your Favorite and Most Beloved Parts of the Bible

What makes you want to pick up the Bible everyday and read it? What about the Bible should we share with others?

Please let me know so I can share these with my friends and family, because my favorite parts of the Bible may not be yours, and I’m always intrigued by what makes people want to read the Bible everyday like I do!

Let’s do our best to help booster readership of the Bible as much as we can!

  1. I find it helpful to do different types of Read the Bible Through the Year studies so that I don’t just stick with my favorites and gloss over others. When we look at the Bible as a complete meta-narrative, which our personal narrative fits into, it takes on so much more meaning.

    1. Dear Christian Tech Nerd,
Today, May 12th, 2022 I saw a picture of who I thought was you on your post dated April 20, 2022. I’ve seen your blog picture and I think you are very pretty, however, if the picture I am talking about is you with your hair let down, then, please accept this compliment as nothing but above board – I think you are absolutely beautiful. Any man lucky enough to get to know you and spend time with you will be very lucky indeed. I hope this doesn’t come across as superficial but as a Christian, like yourself, I wanted you know that God outdid Himself when He gave you life. May God continue to bless you daily.

  2. As far as favorite books to read I would have to say Psalms and Philippians, especially when in need of comfort or perseverance. When you realize the situations that Paul and many of the psalmists were in when writing these words it enriches the reading even more.

  3. One of the problems we have as a culture is that we are too used to the stories. One of my favorite things when O was teaching middle school Sunday School was the day I would tell the kids the story of Joshua Davidson and Rocky Johnson, and I’d wait to see how many kids would figure it out and when. I think we need more biblically inspired fan-fic. My son has been watching a bunch of Transformers clips from pretty much every series on YouTube lately, and it occurred to me that it would be really fun to do a reimagining of Bible stories with Transformers characters.

    1. I must confess to skipping over most of the ‘begat’ Books of the Old Testament.

Nehemiah for example, I don’t get much from:

10And Jeshua begat Joiakim, Joiakim also begat Eliashib, and Eliashib begat Joiada,

      1. The genealogy while not that interesting to read is incredibly important, particularly to the Jews. The gospel of Matthew contains genealogy to prove that Jesus fulfilled the prophecies that Messiah would come from the royal line of David. I think the genealogies are yet another proof that the bible is what it claims to be: God’s word.

      2. Because the prophets indicated Messiah would come from the lineage of king David. Any claim as Messiah would have to pass the test.

The gospel of Matthew was written for a Jewish audience which is why it begins with the lineage of Jesus and also shows fulfillment of many other messianic prophecies. This shows them (and us) that Jesus is the promised Messiah.

  4. Add Philippians to the list, I just finished an in-depth study of it and it is now my favorite book. Every chapter is so encouraging for our walk with Christ!

  7. I find your blogs’ words encouraging, but I become concerned with how often you present yourself in lovely pictures, especially ones like this that are provocative for men who are weak… like me. Dear sister, you need to lose some of your vanity and focus on graphics that will enhance your blogs and not detract from them. ❤️&🙏, c.a.

    1. All due respect, dear brother, but I don’t think she’s at fault. It is wrong to make her responsible for your weakness. The best thing, if I may offer advice which has helped me, is to work on yourself, and make it a daily prayer to the Holy Spirit to make you stronger. And I’m certain He’ll answer you. He certainly answered me. Love and light, bro.

      1. How am I way out of line? You have only accused me of things I’m not sure I quite understand. And trust me, if you are being tempted by her pictures, you need to work on yourself. It is more expedient to you to ask the Holy Spirit to work on you, rather than blame someone else for your weaknesses.
        Peace to you, brother.

      2. I only responded to this gentleman because I had previously brought the same point up to her. And at the close of this response to your question now I include my original question to the author of the blog post regarding this matter of the photos; that definitely prove to me she has a problem.

“Dear sister, you need to lose some of your vanity and focus on graphics that will enhance your blogs and not detract from them.”

Then I responded to his comment:
Look back to her earliest blog postings where she attacks all the social media sites exploiting women and then this silly girl does this nonsense with God’s word!
Look at the posing she does in the photos craving attention by eyes and tempting others!

She is off the rails on this brother and you are correct! She started with a small blog of about 60 followers when I met her postings, then she was stating how there are dirty old men all over the internet; but she proceeded to make a killing on numbers of social media the game and behave this way with the Lord’s word; which is sinful perhaps worse on her part! I parted ways a waste of time!

Losing all of the Vanity is required by God! It certainly has no place with a person saying they want to promote Jesus Christ and then wagging their tail in people’s faces and thinking she is so hot, and not; I don’t see anything good in this silly presentation, or displaying of herself!

Read on in this posting to see what true humble faith looks like and it doesn’t look like this posing ego!

        St. Kateri Tekakwitha

So empyreansong, you seem to have some disconnect from reality here as I can only go by your words but how can you not get it? Sensual eye-catching photos that seek attention of self is a form of “pride and vanity” which is absolutely sinful “especially incorporated with Holy Scriptures” and for you not to get that is very bizarre to say the least! I feel like I’m corresponding with infantile people that actually don’t know the Holy Spirit of God and actually should by their ages, but, are instead lost and maybe know the Devil! You are like I say, speaking very bizarre!

I don’t need to work on me you need to work on you that is quite clear here! I’m not tempted nor interested in her photos they seem ridiculous to me and have no place in sharing Scriptures; this is more about social media gimmickry and vain pursuit of attention. So what I’m saying is, a true believer or devout Christian would see this point easily! Again seek out some help in this because you are out of line. God bless.

empyreansong Just to give my best perspective here about what I see wrong and why here is the comment I sent to her when she started the blog site and had only her one head-shot photo, but she never accepted nor answered this following comment!

“I remember you started out ranting about dirty old men and I sympathized with that concept for a young lady so I jumped in and reblogged that but then you went off on what appears to me a modeling campaign and flaunting your looks online which doesn’t add up at all to me to be perfectly honest which goes contrary to your original outlook here and certainly would and will attract wrong thinking which you are encouraging; so can you explain what is going on with you if you care to? Just to preface anything you can say I do think a generation gap could be someone’s opinion of how I see things versus someone like you but that isn’t all of it; there just seems to be a promotion going on and it doesn’t add up to me at all! Explain?”

She has a huge problem with dirty old men as she made that clear but older men can’t have a problem with her foolish behavior that doesn’t add up to anything sane or proper in a Christian format? You both need to do some hard work on yourselves. Peace.

      3. I could just as easily say that wearing sunshades and a leather jacket is vanity, but hey, you do you, brother.
You have told me your issues with her, and that’s great. But everything you’ve said is your opinion, and your bias on how life is to be lived, and what you think God says. And insulting people by insinuating that they’re following the devil is bizarre, but as I said before, you do you.
I read her post which talked about Bible books, and was led to think about God’s word. You read her post, and chose to focus on her pictures (but I can argue that putting a picture on your profile is vanity, because you are vaunting yourself). As I said, you do you. I am not here to argue. And yes, it could just be a generation, and maybe cultural, gap. You have no idea how many people have differing opinions which, apparently against your belief, will not damn them to hell.
        Have a wonderful day, brother.

      4. “I am not here to argue.” You are here for that and worse; and I know who and what you are speaking through this medium with such minions supporting the work of Satan like shrewd serpents, which you do and are enjoying because you are of darkness in your heart and deep in your foul soul. You do not accept God’s light and truth and you proved that here by your arrogant rejection of truth and your prideful desire to argue; which is very plain to see by “Jesus’ truly faithful.”
“23But Jesus turned and said to Peter, “Get behind Me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to Me. For you do not have in mind the things of God, but the things of men.” 24Then Jesus told His disciples, “If anyone wants to come after Me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow Me.” Matthew 16:23-24

You are so arrogant and full of pride like this fool you support as neither of you speak God’s truth and neither of you even mentioned the great humility and modest virtue of Saint Kateri Tekakwitha which neither of you would choose to learn from or use her example as a gauge of correction of your sinful selves. Sun shades to protect one’s eyeballs while riding a motorcycle are hardly devices of vanity you fool.

You are doomed and I see that. Good riddance you can burn in hell with her for these blasphemies against God! You chose your path and live with that.

Your words are so appropriate from your mind and heart; “will not damn them to hell.” Oh yes they will, as any who blaspheme God Almighty are on that slippery slope to hell! Enjoy the ride; sure it will be a barrel of laughs when you reach that final destination!

      5. Insult me all you want, but you know absolutely nothing about me. You do not know who I am, and it’s quite surprising to see the amount of vitriol you poured on me, when we’re supposed to be serving the same God, who says in His word that our speech should be gracious (Colossians 4:6). Your speech has shown me otherwise about you.
In any event, your desire and hope for me to perish in hell is misplaced. I am not going there. I hope we meet in Heaven. It would be nice to speak cordially with you. But I most certainly do not want to meet you on earth.
        Good day and goodbye.

      6. Don’t be surprised if you really are, because you shouldn’t be!

I already know enough about you to see where you are coming from and it’s not good! Here you are on someone else’s blog site correcting capost2k “It is wrong to make her responsible for your weakness. The best thing, if I may offer advice which has helped me, is to work on yourself, and make it a daily prayer to the Holy Spirit to make you stronger;” on a site where the girl is playing popularity contest of social media flaunting her pretty girl poses throughout with Scripture and you fools suck that up like the lost souls you are; as you try to defend that behavior to the hilt but hop all over any real man that says it like it is, you won’t have it how dare some man put her or you in your place!!

Very typical Protestant or fanatical confused fringe worshipers, more social media groupies and wannabes; some even worse, wolves in sheep’s clothing which are all over this cyber-space, don’t you know that yet; oh wait you actually7 really know all these people that you exchange with on the web, huh-uh! And your misdirected mouthy comment was made to capost2k for this absolutely correct comment! “You need to lose some of your vanity and focus on graphics that will enhance your blogs and not detract from them. & , c.a.”

In a battle it’s called “check your fire” and not kill any friendly’s which is something you obviously never learned about life in general or how to be a truly good Christian. As my grandmother would say; “some people are off their rockers!”

You went on to say “I don’t think she’s at fault. It is wrong to make her responsible for your weakness.” OH, Of course how can she or you be at fault for “Pete’s sake” you are the walking images of virtue personified! Pardon our numbness and lowly stature here your highness!

Then to me you blurt out this amazing remark, which I was “awestruck” by! “How am I way out of line? You have only accused me of things I’m not sure I quite understand. And trust me, if you are being tempted by her pictures, you need to work on yourself. It is more expedient to you to ask the Holy Spirit to work on you, rather than blame someone else for your weaknesses.”

Again you must be right; RIGHT, how can you or she be “wrong” that is just unimaginable and stupid to think such a thing! By the way; the real deal is God helps those who help themselves and its called getting hold of your boot straps and doing what you are supposed to do and not mess up continually because you are arrogant or vain, and then say hey God fix all my messes and get me out of all these bad things I’m doing so wrong!

2 Thessalonians 3:10 “For even when we were with you, we would give you this command: If anyone is not willing to work, let him not eat.”

James 2:26 “For as the body apart from the spirit is dead, so also faith apart from works is dead.”

1 Timothy 5:1-25 “Do not rebuke an older man but encourage him as you would a father, younger men as brothers, older women as mothers, younger women as sisters, in all purity. Honor widows who are truly widows. But if a widow has children or grandchildren, let them first learn to show godliness to their own household and to make some return to their parents, for this is pleasing in the sight of God. She who is truly a widow, left all alone, has set her hope on God and continues in supplications and prayers night and day,”

Philippians 2:12-13 “Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, so now, not only as in my presence but much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure.”

        James 2:18
But someone will say, “You have faith and I have works.” Show me your faith apart from your works, and I will show you my faith by my works.”

Let’s pay total attention to these words that always have jumped out grasping my attention to reality!
“work out your own salvation with fear and trembling”

You don’t have the right to offer me or as I see it anyone any advice on what to do with their lives or how to do God’s will, when you obviously haven’t been doing a good job of that yourself! Jumping to depend stupidity just like so many enablers on this site and countless other one’s! Think about the term “Fool’s Errand.”

But then to cap it off you add this beauty; “Insult me all you want, but you know absolutely nothing about me. You do not know who I am, and it’s quite surprising to see the amount of vitriol you poured on me, when we’re supposed to be serving the same God, who says in His word that our speech should be gracious.” (Colossians 4:6).

Not here this is not where this Scripture applies miss correction, “righteous Indignation” and anger have a proper place and should be used by one who is capable of taking on all comers and I ask is that you? Of course not, but I am ready for such battles and have taken on people and powers major powers of worldly corruption and evil that would cause you to cry momma! “Some Christian doctrines so very clearly explain, righteous anger, and how it’s considered “the only form of anger which is not sinful,” e.g., “when Jesus drove the money lenders out .” Wikipedia

Nothing is sacred now and most everything is tainted with evil! Life has been so cheapened and defiled that people can actually say they are part of a system that promotes and encourages death over life, and Satan over God! That is where we are, do you get that yet and why this girl is wrong, how about reading about the saint I sent out and get your minds right and especially your hearts because you may not have much time left and then it will be too little too late, and you had better make up your minds about it, people have become vile wicked creatures in many cases, with zero humanity; but plenty of lip service! Way too many flaky people on this “World Wide Web” in the “Crooked Ways of The World” built on LIES! All seeking attention as aficionados of one thing or another; big deals! My meaning in summation, in other words, if you’re not a part of any solution to all of this evil, then you must be a part of the problem; so are you solving any of the biggest problems? Because we have allowed this world, along with us, to go down this “dark ugly road,” and we are still driving it forward; to “Perdition and complete destructive evil.”

1 Timothy 6:5 “Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself.”

2 Peter 2:3 “3 And through covetousness, with well-turned words, will they make merchandise of you: for whom judgment of old is not idle, and their destruction slumbers not.”

Now Jesus was angry because ministry was becoming a business or taking on the appearances of “money grubbing” and it should have nothing to do with such activity! But now carry that over into daily living if we learn from the Holy Scriptures what Jesus Christ is teaching the world about sin is to turn from such things and become sowers of charity and humility in giving, not taking; yet this world now is the worst it ever was and can’t get any worse other than for the human race to put their final nail in humanity’s own coffin; and make this “hell on earth” where there is no law, rules, love or God!

We are on the precipice and the door to hell is wide open now! We are all about to step over the threshold into our new marriage to Satan, after so many of the most secular people have already divorced their relationship with God! That is how bad it’s become, to where we are all active participants in this debauchery and ugliness; that when we really are honest with ourselves and ask, would Jesus approve of all I do each day with my life in regard to others? And then partaking of this business of the internet that is a massive manipulating exploitative tool, being used by the all-powerful “powers that be” those Ways of the World powers who run it, do you really think you are not being used or abused, while perhaps doing the same to others willingly or even unwilling as a participant in a “Culture of Death!”

Let’s All Look in The Mirror do We like what We See; Does Jesus?

You started on capost2k and then me after which you have the gall now to say I’m pouring vitriol onto you! “That takes the cake” for sure because all I have done is provide Truth and Facts something you apparently have a hard time facing and accepting, like maybe admitting when you are Wrong, Dead Wrong! Many of you people on this internet are idiots and don’t see the forest for the trees and will never admit it! So as thick and stubborn as a brick even! I would have never had two words with you if you hadn’t come along as “miss correction” and think it was your place to tell capost2k or me off and put us in our proper places over some kid here with I’m pretty photos all over her blog site while saying I’m sharing Scriptural Truth to serve the Lord! Clowns’ that’s all that comes to my mind is these people are clowns!

You should learn from this mistake of yours to stay out of other peoples’ affairs and do not mouth off when you do not absolutely know what you are talking about or especially, when you don’t have a clue about the person you are directing this supposed correction at! Just shut up and go pray is my advice to anyone that is afflicted and confused as you are; and back off! The good strong man leader in me with my genuine heart for Jesus is the only reason I’ve spent this amount of my precious time on the lies of your foolishness.

        Amen and Amen.

Way too many enablers, phonies and clowns on here for my liking!
        Goodnight!

I have written to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God abides in you, and you have overcome the evil one. 15Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh, the desires of the eyes, and the pride of life—is not from the Father but from the world.” 1 John 2:15

    1. Revelation is such an underrated book, beloved! I was blessed to study the book, not as one looking for how and when the world will end (which is what most of us tend to do), but as one looking for messages that God had to give. And boy those messages were many.

  8. Some years ago, I was bedridden for a week due to surgery. My mom gave me a number of books because she knows I like reading. One of these books was ‘The Richest Man in Babylon. As I read it, I was shocked to see that all those proven facts for wealth building and management are actually comfortably sitting in the Book of Proverbs.
The Bible is an incredible book, and my favourite books are Ecclesiastes (because it reminds us of the vanity of this world, and what really matters) and John (because it’s so daring in its putting forward of Jesus as The One; I came to he conclusion, from reading John, that Jesus was either raving I-have-flown-off-the-shelves-and-out-the-window mad, or He is Who He said He is). I dig your posts. Remain blessed.

  9. It is refreshing to see you taking a stand. You are doing plenty for your generation and the future. Your parents are from my generation, the late baby boomers and Gen Xers, and they did well raising you. I came to know Jesus as an 8 year old when a friend told me the truth about what would happen to me if I didn’t seek forgiveness for my sins that I already did commit. When my time comes, I will be having fun eating ice cream.

If there is one book that taught me about Christ’s character, it is the book of John. It tells plenty about who Jesus really is. It shows his friendships with his disciples, his merciful side towards many, and his boldness in standing up to those who inflict evil onto others in the name of self righteousness.

  10. I should be reading the Bible more than I do… I feel like a lot of my lack of spiritual connection as an adult has been because I just don’t fit in anywhere at church. Any church. When you’re in your 20s and under, there are church groups for your age that become a built-in friendship group. Since I hit my 30s, I just don’t fit in anymore, because everyone my age has children and then grandchildren and completely different interests and lifestyles from me. And churches that aren’t like that either are full of people who don’t take their faith seriously, they only go to church because it’s part of their culture, or they water down the message so much to stay culturally relevant that they ignore or even encourage sin.

  11. Amen!!! The Bible is our source for knowing God, knowing His command which gives us direction on how to live and we see in the Bible the story of redemption through our Lord Jesus Christ. The fact that we are all sinners and yet God has provided the way of salvation should give us the desire to want to know Him more. Of course we do this by reading and studying the Bible. I have been studying the Bible for over 25 years and it never gets old. I learn every time I study. You can use my website as a resource for anyone looking for expositional Bible studies. I have many topic expositions along with some books of the Bible that I’ve completed and I am still working on. Great Article!!! Thank you for being so upfront as people need this so much in todays society.

So, before I get out of the bed, when I wake up, I read a scripture in the Bible, or a Bible plan, mediate on the word that I’ve read. This builds up the desire to devour the word of God daily.

I love all the books in the Bible, so much to learn, discover and know about God.
    My favorite book is John.

  13. Defining the Bible as 73 books (per the Council of Trent), I have developed a great attachment to First Maccabees. (The best translation of First Maccabees is in The Revised English Bible, 1989, by the way.) First Maccabees is about struggles to remain faithful under foreign occupation and religious persecution then afterward.

  14. Good choices. I’m getting ready to preach on Revelation 1 this weekend. I memorized Ephesians about 30 years ago as a young pastor and still have it memorized today. I found I couldn’t avoid referencing something in Ephesians every time I preached or taught. And it’s so practical as well. Job is good if you can follow the flow of the arguments. I’ve got a Master’s Degree in Hebrew, and it still took me three or four reads through Job and circles and arrows on connected passages to see the flow.

  15. My favorite book of the Bible has been Psalms for many years. Not only because it is the “prayer book of the Bible,” as Dietrich Bonhoeffer called it, but also because of the range of emotions that are displayed within. My “life verse” is Psalm 86:11. “Teach me your way, O LORD, that I may walk in your truth; unite my heart to fear your name.” There are also part of Isaiah that are tremendous. One of my favorite verses for about ten years has been Isaiah 41:10.”fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
