Why God Wants You To Be Kind (Even When You Don’t Feel Like It)

Have you ever been hurt?

Either from a harsh word or a dismissive gesture?

It’s a hurt everyone has experienced

And it’s a hurt that everyone has inflicted at some point or another.

But as followers of Christ, we are tasked to be different.

We are tasked with kindness.

Not just to friends and family, but the more difficult type of kindness

The one that extends to strangers.

“Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.” (Ephesians 4:32)

This verse isn’t a suggestion.

It’s a divine command.

God showed us the ultimate kindness by sending His son to die for our sins.

We must aim to follow His example.

Often, we just see a fraction of the struggles others are facing.

The grocery store clerk who smiles as she rings up your items may be battling a chronic illness.

The neighbor who always keeps to himself might be shouldering the weight of deep loneliness.

The colleague who seems irritable could be dealing with a difficult family situation.

These are the unseen battles that every person is going through.

And a simple kind gesture, a warm smile, a genuine compliment, a helping hand, can make a huge difference.

Kindness is a reflection of God’s love.

And it’s not always easy.

This is why it is so much more important that we show it.

We are called to respond with kindness even when it’s tough, even when it’s inconvenient, and even when we don’t feel like it.

Because kindness has the power to break down barriers, mend relationships, and bring healing to hurting hearts.

And it’s especially important to be kind even to those who wrong us.

This is when our faith is tested

When being like Christ is difficult.

So, let’s strive to remain kind, always.

And may God guide us as we strive to reflect His kindness in our daily experiences.

  2. I married a very kind man who God uses to challenge me to be kind. Kindness goes farther really than any other thing we should practice. I teach a bible study every Thursday of about 10 women. I have struggle with one of them to be kind because she is so rude and unapproachable. She is the youngest, 32, daughter of our pastor and his wife. She is fairly large and two color of hair, one side dark the other light, tattoos all over, huge plug too, etch. But truthfully that does not bother me, its how rude she is to her Mom in front of us all. And she offer not even a smile to other ladies. I don’t think she follow along with our study, but is on her phone the whole time. I have tried to get into her life even through her mother who makes excuses for her and does not correct her rudeness. I noticed Sunday morning how many came up to her to just say hello and she barely lifter her eyes from her phone. We are going through a book titled, Gentle and Lowly, all about Christ. Would you pray for her heart to be open to the truth in this book. I on purpose always speak to her, fixed her a snack once in a while but it is hard and I see the other ladies not trying as much to love on her. I can see she is very insecure and hates her body, but I dare not address any of that. So, your post on kindness was exactly what I needed to read today. Blessings
