Is There Such a Thing As “Too Much Sleep?”

One of my Christian BFFs approached me after Church this past Sunday.

I could tell something was troubling her.

“I think I sleep too much,” she whispered, almost as if she were embarrassed.

At first, I couldn’t figure out why she was even mentioning this to me.

But she told me that she felt that she had to sleep more than 7.5 hours, which is what everyone recommends.

And if she slept less than that, she would always feel tired.

“Isn’t this too much sleep?” She asked. “Does this mean I’m too lazy?”

I will tell you what I told my BFF, and what I tell everyone who thinks that getting too much sleep means they are “lazy.”

The truth is, you have to sleep as much as you feel like you need to. Period.

There was a study in Japan where they had people sleep for however long they wanted to.

And they did that in a controlled environment.

With no technology, social media, or anything else that disrupts people’s sleep.

After they got used to it, the participants slept for 8.7 hours on average. This was what was most ideal for them.

When I first read about that, it felt like too much to me as well.

But then another study came out, that was done in collaboration with Stanford (in the US), and the University Of Siri in the UK.

They followed the same process.

And they found that if they let people sleep however long they want to, with no distractions

They would sleep for 8.6 hours on average.

How did 2 different studies from across the globe, with different people, end up at almost the same conclusion?

Well, the answer is simple.

We have to sleep for however long we want to.

I am not saying that we should aim for 8.6 or 8.7 hours of sleep per night.

The participants in the study were youngsters, and this is what was right for them.

What I am saying is that sleeping more than 7.5 hours does not mean we are lazy.

Sleep is essential for our health.

Everyone nowadays likes to glorify work, looking down on people who like to rest

But our minds and our spirits need it.

So let us rest without guilt.

You Will Not Ever Wake Up Tired Again If You Do This

Have you ever woken up tired, even though you slept for 8 hours?

You are not alone.

Dozens of people have opened up to me about this very reason.

They have a strict bedtime routine, they reach their recommended 7 to 9 hours of sleep, but still, they wake up feeling drained.

So much so that no amount of coffee can make any difference.

If you also have energy challenges, let me assure you. There is nothing wrong with you.

God created our systems with a remarkable ability to restore and heal themselves.

But for that to happen, the amount of sleep we enjoy is not enough.

The quality of our sleep is equally important.

In other words, how much deep sleep we have.

It is during this deep sleep stage that our systems actually rejuvenate.

But there’s a catch.

As important as deep sleep is, it compromises less than a third of our overall sleep.

Meaning that if you sleep for 7.5 hours, the deep sleep part would be less than 2.5 hours.

And a multitude of factors, including stress, nutrition, and lifestyle, can reduce this percentage even further.

This explains why you might wake up feeling tired after sleeping for 8 hours. You’re getting sleep, but not enough deep sleep.

But fear not, because our gracious Lord has designed our systems to respond and adapt.

The answer to sleeping sounder is found right within our Sacred Texts.

Psalm 127:2 says “In vain you rise early and stay up late, toiling for food to eat—for he grants sleep to those he loves.”

Maintaining a regular sleep schedule is the Notthing you can do to improve sleep quality.

God designed us with a natural sleep-wake cycle, often referred to as the circadian rhythm.

Following a consistent sleep schedule regulates this rhythm and improves sleep quality.

This means that we shouldn’t stay up late worrying about our concerns, watching TV series, or even working.

God has generously blessed us with the ability to rest. We should honor this present by ensuring we sleep properly, and at about the same time each night.

If you’re also facing energy challenges, why don’t you try it?

My 2 Favorite Prayers to Say at Night to Help me Get a Good Night of Sleep

If you need help finding some prayers to say before you lay down for the night,

then here are two of my favorite prayers I say before I journey off to my dreams.

Prayer Before Bed

Lord God, many things have happened today. Some good, some bad, some hard, some joyful. Before I go to sleep, I want to entrust all these things to You. Honestly, there are many things I can’t figure out. Many circumstances are confusing. Many situations are just plain hard. Even though I can’t figure out how all these things will work out, I know that You are good, and I know that You will do good for me. Ultimately, I know that I can completely trust You. As I go to sleep, I declare that I trust in You. I may not know how all things will work out, but You do, and because You are good, I proclaim my trust in You. Amen.

Night Prayer to God

Holy Spirit, sleep is a reminder that I am totally and completely dependent upon You. I don’t have infinite strength. I cannot keep working indefinitely. I need sleep to refresh me. As I drift off to sleep, it’s a clear reminder that I am not in control. I need You to sustain me through the night, and I need You to sustain me through my life. Please give me the grace of sleep. Give me the grace of strength. Allow me to wake refreshed in the morning. I depend on You, my good and gracious Father. I trust You to sustain me and to wake me with fresh energy for a new day in the morning. Amen.

What The Last Supper Teaches Us About Eating Right

When you hear the words “The Last Supper,” what comes to mind?

A gathering of Jesus and His disciples, sharing a meal and fellowship.

A somber, poignant moment filled with love, lessons, and impending sacrifice.

Yet, amidst these deeply spiritual insights, there is a lesson that often goes unnoticed.

The Last Supper, that legendary event captured in scriptures and countless works of art, has something to teach us about eating right.

Let us remember it again.

Jesus and his disciples gathered around a table, eating a meal together.

They ate bread and drank wine, taking the time to enjoy their food and their fellowship.

This alone carries within it a blueprint for healthy eating that many of us overlook in our overly convenient food culture.

First, gathering and eating as a community.

Communal eating can improve our relationship with food and encourage healthier eating habits.

And yet, less than half of Americans eat with their families on the regular.

We should remember Jesus and His students, and eat with our loved ones as often as we can.

Next, we have to consider the concept of mindful eating.

At the Last Supper, Jesus gave thanks for the bread and wine before passing it to His disciples.

This display of gratitude and reflection can teach us to appreciate our food, be mindful of what we are consuming, and eat more slowly.

Lastly, the simplicity of the meal itself.

The Last Supper was not a feast of overly processed, unhealthy foods.

It was simple, wholesome, and nourishing. Qualities we should strive for in our meals.

The more we talk about the Last Supper, the more we find out about how we should eat.

As we navigate through our journeys, let us remember and apply its lessons to our daily experiences. Let’s strive to eat together, mindfully, and healthily.

And let’s always remember to appreciate God for the food He provides and for the sacrifice that Jesus made for us.

This Will Change Everything You Know About Fat Loss

If you’ve ever attempted to drop some bodyfat…

Then you might have tried what every “expert” out there recommends.

You know, the intense workouts and diets that you can’t possibly stick to for too long, and you end up gaining instead of losing weight.

Losing weight like this is almost impossible if you haven’t done it before.

That’s why most people who are overweight stay overweight.

However, what if I told you that the key to losing fat is not exercising yourself to death – or following extreme diets.

But breathing more.

That’s right, my friends.

A professor of Kinesiology at California State University in Fullerton just revealed that breathing is essential for fat loss.

And yet, you will not hear about this from anyone who is trying to sell you a fat loss or an exercise program.

If more people knew how simple losing fat actually is, then obesity would not be a concern in the US anymore.

You see, fat is made out of long carbon chains.

When we inhale, oxygen enters our system and becomes attached to some of that carbon.

And when we exhale, we breathe out carbon dioxide (CO2).

That’s how fat leaves our system.

This means that anything that makes you breathe harder makes you slim down.

Isn’t that incredibly simple?

And the most effective way to do that constantly over the years, no matter how you feel or how much time you have is by taking regular walks.

Walking doesn’t put any stress on your system.

You don’t experience a drop in energy afterwards, like you do with intense workouts.

(If anything, it makes you feel more energized).

And the most important thing, you are able to stick with it in the long run.

Our Lord has given everyone the ability to remain healthy and take care of their physical vessels.

And simply by taking brisk walks, we can chip away bodyfat without even realizing it.

If you prefer running, that’s fine too.

As long as you are able to keep at it for a long period of time.

So don’t listen to people who say you need to do any intense workouts or starve yourself to death.

Just eat in moderation and do something that makes you breathe slightly harder.

How Christians Should Handle Conflict

Are you confused about conflict? You are not alone.

As Christians, we are expected to love and show kindness to everyone.

But this doesn’t mean that we should always go along with what they say.

Quite the opposite, actually.

Conflict is a normal part of relationships.

And having genuine arguments is a good thing.

They allow us to see situations from different angles and come closer to one another.

Conflict becomes problematic, however, when it is not handled properly.

This is when it causes a lot of stress and discomfort.

That’s why I want to give you an easy way to approach conflict…

So that both parties always derive some benefit from it.

One of the key principles is to listen actively to the other person’s perspective.

This means truly trying to understand their point of view, without interrupting or becoming defensive.

When we listen to others, we show respect for their opinions and walk one step closer toward resolution.

Another important principle is to speak the truth in love.

We should always be honest with others.

But we must do so in a way that is loving and kind.

If you are used to avoiding conflict, I understand.

When I was in high school, or even my first few semesters in college, I would also try to escape heated arguments, thinking that was the right thing to do.

But this slowly got me into bad situations, that could have been avoided if I chose to argue with the people around me.

Conflict exists to solve problems.

And there is nothing wrong with arguing with respect and love.

I understand that it can be very difficult, sometimes even awkward in the beginning.

But we should remember that God is on our side.

And that we can always pray for guidance and wisdom.

God will always aid us in navigating conflict in a healthy way that honors Him.

So instead of running away from it, let’s embrace it and evolve our relationships.

Do You Make This Mistake In Your Relationships?

As Christians, we are often taught to show love to the people around us.

And that’s a delightful way to live.

By following God’s Will, we make the world a finer place.

And we assist others in staying on the right path.

But sometimes, we forget something essential.

When we focus too much on others, we sometimes neglect to extend the same kindness to ourselves.

I used to make that mistake in the past.

I went above and beyond to assist everyone else, but I wouldn’t show the same love toward myself.

And this kept me stressed and pressured.

But I was the one who put that pressure on myself.

It took me a long time to realize that I should treat myself like I treated my loved ones.

With empathy, understanding, and compassion.

When I started doing that, my stress began to melt away.

And my mental health recovered.

I want to make sure that you are not making the same mistake.

Remember, our Heavenly Father loves us unconditionally, and we are deserving of that same love.

In the words of the apostle Paul, “Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience” (Colossians 3:12).

When we show ourselves compassion and grace, we follow Jesus’ example.

Jesus understands our struggles and is patient with us, so we should also be patient with ourselves.

Showing ourselves kindness should be taught in every school and every church.

It strengthens our faith and improves our health.

Practicing self-compassion and self-love can reduce stress, anxiety, and depression.

And it is something that too many people struggle with nowadays.

Treating ourselves kindly allows our minds to relax, making it easier to manage stress and maintain emotional equilibrium.

By giving ourselves permission to make mistakes, we enable personal growth and resilience.

My fellow Christians, let us strive to treat ourselves with love and kindness, just as our Heavenly Father treats us.

As we do so, we will experience a deepening of our faith, as well as a profound improvement in our health and well-being.

Remember, you are just as worthy of love as anyone else.

Why Prayer Is Even More Important During The Holy Week

As the joyous Easter season is upon us, let us not forget the significance of Holy Week and the role of prayer in that sacred time.

The events of Holy Week remind us that Jesus Himself was no stranger to prayer.

Throughout His earthly ministry, He often withdrew from the crowds to spend time in quiet communion with His Heavenly Father.

This was especially true during the emotionally and spiritually charged moments of Holy Week.

As Jesus faced the agony of the cross and the weight of our sins, He turned to prayer, demonstrating its vital role in connecting with God.

In the garden of Gethsemane, Jesus prayed fervently, seeking solace and strength from His Father to face the trials ahead.

His passionate plea is a testament to the importance of honest communication with God, even in our darkest moments.

Jesus’ vulnerability in prayer teaches us that it is not a sign of weakness..

But rather an expression of trust and dependence on our Heavenly Father.

As followers of Christ, we have to emulate His example and pray daily.

Prayer allows us to establish and maintain a personal relationship with our Creator, seeking His guidance, strength, and wisdom.

In times of joy and gratitude, we are beckoned to present prayers of thanksgiving.

In times of sorrow, uncertainty, or pain, we can find solace in laying our burdens before Him.

As we reflect on Holy Week, let us be reminded that prayer is more than a ritual or formal requirement.

It is a robust tool that connects us to God, transforming our hearts and minds, and aligning our desires with His divine will.

Let us continue to cultivate a deep and abiding habit of prayer, not just during Holy Week, but in every season of our journey with Christ.

I encourage each of you to carry the lessons of Holy Week and the power of prayer into your everyday activities.

May we be inspired to draw closer to God through prayer and experience the peace and strength that come from being grounded in Him.

This Is The Key To Unwavering Faith

Everyone has experienced doubt at some point.

Yes, even as believers, we may sometimes find ourselves wrestling with questions.

And perhaps, feeling just a little bit like Doubting Thomas.

The disciple who, when told of Jesus’s resurrection, responded, “Unless I see the nail marks in his hands and put my finger where the nails were, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe” (John 20:25).

In his story, lies the key to overcoming doubt.

But before we go any further, let’s clear something up.

Having doubts doesn’t mean you’re a bad Christian.

It simply means that your faith is maturing. It’s an indication that you are not afraid to ask difficult questions and seek the truth.

The story of Thomas teaches us a profound lesson, one that can help us mature and reinforce our faith in God.

The vital moment in that story comes a week after Jesus’s resurrection.

Jesus appears before his disciples once more.

And this time, Thomas is present.

He sees the wounds of Christ, hears His voice, and Jesus lets him reach out and touch his wounds.

“My Lord and my God!” Thomas exclaimed.

This moment of recognition, of truly seeing Jesus, triggers a complete transformation in Thomas.

And therein lies our lesson.

The key to unwavering faith is not in eliminating doubts, but in seeking a personal, transformative encounter with Christ.

Everyone’s journey is unique.

We each encounter Christ in different ways.

And it is through these encounters that we, like Thomas, come to recognize Jesus for who He is. Our Lord and our God.

So if you ever wrestle with doubts, don’t despair.

Remember the story of Thomas. Reach out to Christ. Seek a personal encounter with Him.

He is always there.

And He is more patient than most people think.

Why Faith Will Always Triumph Over Fear

Fear is a formidable opponent.

It lurks in the shadows of our hearts

Waiting for the opportune moment to cast doubt and stifle our spirit.

It’s a force that can shake our confidence and fill us with uncertainty.

And yet, no matter how paralyzing a situation might feel, our faith will always triumph over it.

You see, fear focuses on surviving. Faith concentrates on living.

When the Devil plants fear in our hearts, we become ensnared in our worries and doubts.

We tend to dwell on the magnitude of our challenges rather than seeking the way out.

But faith directs our eyes heavenward.

It reminds us that God surpasses anything we might face.

In our Holy Texts, we see numerous examples of faith conquering fear.

Remember David and Goliath?

David, a young shepherd, faced a giant of a man. If David had given in to fear, he would have been paralyzed, overwhelmed by Goliath’s strength.

But David’s faith in God was mightier than his fear. He knew that with God by his side, he could overcome any obstacle, even a giant.

Similarly, our faith can empower us to confront and overcome our fears.

It shifts our focus from the challenges at hand to the One who holds everything in His hands.

It allows us to walk boldly into the unknown, secure in the knowledge that God is with us every step of the way.

However, like a muscle, faith needs to be exercised to grow.

By seeking God through prayer, immersing ourselves in His Word, and trusting in His promises, our faith becomes unshakeable.

Every time we choose to lean on God, despite our circumstances, we exercise our faith muscle.

Remember, my friends, fear is a reaction. Faith is a decision.

A reaction is often instinctual and momentary.

But a decision is deliberate. It’s an active choice.

We are faced with that choice every day. We can react to our circumstances with fear, or we can decide to trust God.

So let us choose wisely.

God Bless,

Is The Modern World Too “Noisy” For Christians?

When was the last time you opened the TV and felt good?

Everywhere we turn to nowadays, there is always a story about an accident

Or someone spreading false beliefs…

Or people arguing for things that don’t matter…

The modern world has become too noisy.

It seems like it’s focused on the wrong things.

Few people talk about humility and integrity anymore.

Being a Christian nowadays can feel like an uphill battle.

It’s a journey that requires unwavering faith, determination, and resilience.

However, with God’s grace and guidance, we can rise above the challenges and be a beacon of hope and light in this ever-changing landscape.

We are surrounded by a culture that prioritizes quick gratification, self-centeredness, and material possessions.

In the midst of such a landscape, it’s too easy for our hearts to be swayed and our convictions to waver.

But fear not, for we are not alone in this struggle

Remember the story of Daniel, the young prophet who stood firm in his faith, even when faced with threatening challenges in a pagan kingdom?

Daniel’s unwavering commitment to his beliefs and his relationship with God enabled him to weather the storms that surrounded him.

We too can find strength and inspiration in his example.

To lead Christian paths in a “noisy” world, we must first and foremost build a strong foundation in our faith.

This means nurturing our relationship with God through daily prayer, Scripture study, and reflection.

As we deepen our connection with the Lord, we become more resilient and better equipped to handle the challenges that come our way.

Even in the darkest of times, we can turn to God for solace and guidance.

Just as Jesus turned to His Father during His most trying moments, so too must we seek refuge in our Creator.

God’s loving presence is always with us.

Providing us with the strength and courage to persevere.

So let us not become lured away by the noise.

Let us stay resilient and lead by example.

Why Does God Punish People?

“If God loves us, then why does He send bad people to Hell?” someone once asked me.

This is a question that a lot of folks have.

So I would like to clear any misconceptions people might have about our Lord.

Our Lord’s love for us is vaster than we can imagine.

He loves us so much that He even sent His Son to rescue us from our mistakes.

But along with His love, He is also perfectly fair and just.

Let’s think about it like this. Imagine a good, caring parent.

This parent loves their child more than anything.

But when the child does something wrong, like stealing or lying, the parent doesn’t just ignore it.

Instead, they correct the child.

They do this not because they suddenly stopped loving their child, but because they want their child to learn from their mistakes and grow up to be a good person.

It’s the same with the Lord.

When we do something wrong, He doesn’t just ignore it, even though He loves us deeply.

His fairness comes into play. Sometimes we face the results of our bad decisions, and this helps us learn and grow, and improve.

I know the idea of hell can sound scary.

But it’s essential to remember that God doesn’t want anyone to end up there.

He would like everyone to transform their ways and choose Him.

Hell is a choice. It is what happens when people decide to turn their backs on the Lord’s love and His ways.

God loves us so much that He lets us make our own choices, even if they lead us away from Him.

Our job as Christians is to accept His love and understand His fairness.

We need to make good choices that bring us closer to Him.

And we should always pray for those who seem to have lost their way, hoping they find God’s love and choose Him.

Sometimes, it’s tough to understand why things are the way they are.

But remember this. God’s love for us is a love that helps us grow. It’s a love that guides us, teaches us, and helps us become the greatest we can be.
Why don’t you use these simple ideas to accept God’s love?

Why You Should Assist Others With Finding God’s Path

Every time I assist someone to come closer to God, something odd happens.

I feel more centered

Happier

And wiser.

At first, I thought this was because of people’s gratitude.

And while I appreciate that, that wasn’t it.

Over the past few years while in college, I’ve come to realize that when I aid others with listening to God’s Will, my faith deepens.

By helping others, especially people my age, I walk a step closer to God.

One person at a time.

And this is something that every Christian can do to deepen their faith as well, no matter their profession, age, or gender.

God’s generosity is boundless, and He has graced us with countless blessings.

Among these blessings lies our capacity to uplift and encourage others in their spiritual journey.

As it says in 1 Thessalonians 5 11, we are reminded, “Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.”

When we invest our hearts in the spiritual well-being of others, our own faith flourishes and grows.

As we provide our support, we become a living testimony to God’s transformative grace.

We show that faith is not a lonely endeavor.

But a shared experience of divine love, uniting us in a wondrous and mysterious way.

This interconnection is the essence of our Christian faith, and it unveils the true meaning of fellowship, community, and love.

Everyone can engage in uplifting and encouraging others.

Whether it’s simply by listening, praying for someone, or sharing words of wisdom, encouragement can take many shapes.

By embracing this divine calling, we can connect with God and express ourselves in a way that serves Him.

That’s why I highly encourage you to make it a priority to uplift others in their spiritual journey.

And use these simple ideas to support those around you.

And I promise you will feel the same fulfillment and spiritual enlightenment that I did.

What Atheists Don’t Realize About Forgiveness

There’s an old saying that goes, “Holding onto anger is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to die.”

I see it constantly in the world around us.

People hold on to grudges, resentment, and anger for weeks, months, even years.

They may have a very good reason to do so

But they are just harming themselves in the long run.

As Christians, we lead different lifestyles.

Jesus taught us the importance of forgiveness, both for the sake of our own souls and for the benefit of others.

He reminds us in Matthew 6:14-15, “For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.”

Forgiveness isn’t always easy

But it is an incredible path towards inner peace, enhanced relationships, and even improved health.

Forgiveness can lead to lower blood pressure, reduced stress levels, and a more robust immune system.

It can also improve our mental health and overall well-being.

So how can we cultivate forgiveness in our daily experiences?

The answer is simple

Pray for those who have wronged you.

Praying for your enemies can be a transformative experience, as it shifts your perspective and allows you to see them as God sees them.

This is something that not a lot of people can do nowadays

They are too blinded by resentment.

And they don’t realize that by staying angry, they are hurting themselves and those around them.

But we have ways to overcome that resentment.

We are not alone.

We can seek support from our community.

Sharing your struggles with fellow believers can provide encouragement and aid you in finding the strength to forgive.

Remember, forgiveness is not something you do once. It has to be a part of your character.

You have to be a forgiving person.

Both for yourself, and your loved ones.

It takes time and effort, but the rewards are immeasurable.

As we journey through God’s path, may we always strive to practice forgiveness.

And may we receive God’s aid.
