Every day, as I’m on my way to church, I witness something unusual.

People around me are frowning.

They look at their phones to make sure they are not missing anything.

And they walk like they’re running away from something.

Everyone in the street seems constantly concerned.

This transforms once I step foot inside my church.

The Christians around me are joyful.

They are more relaxed.

And they laugh with their whole hearts.


It is like a whole different world.

Laughter is something that’s almost gone extinct in the modern world.

But it is an essential aspect of our health.

One that we should strive to maintain.

As Christians, we live with joy and gratitude, no matter what challenges we may face.

God has given us the present of laughter, and He wants us to use it to lift our spirits and those of others.

It naturally reduces stress, lowers blood pressure, and boosts the immune system. 

When we laugh, we release endorphins, which are natural painkillers that promote feelings of happiness and well-being.

It is so important.

And yet, a lot of people nowadays have almost forgotten about it.

They focus solely on everything that goes wrong.

And they neglect to care for their mental and spiritual health.

As Christians, this is something that we have to support everyone with.

Everyone should be able to laugh and appreciate what they have.

Nehemiah 8:10 says, “The joy of the Lord is your strength.” When we cultivate joy and laughter, we are tapping into the strength and joy that come from God.

Laughter can allow us to feel more connected to God and His creation.

When we laugh at the absurdities, we are reminded of God’s sense of humor and His ability to turn even the most difficult situations into blessings.

Taking everything too seriously can have a lot of negative consequences.

Remember, we are on this earth for a finite amount of time.

Having fun and living happily should be a no-brainer.

So let us remember that laughter is a present from God.

And that He wants us to use it to lift our spirits and those of others.

May we always find joy and gratitude amid our challenges.

Biblical “Secret” For Improved Health

I have noticed a positive trend lately.

Regular folks across America are trying to be healthier.

That’s good! It means that people are starting to realize the importance of self-care.

However, most of them run into a significant matter.

They don’t know what to do.

No matter where you look nowadays, there is someone giving different advice.

How are you supposed to know which one is the right one?

Well, no matter how chaotic things become, there is always a place where we can find answers

Our Holy Texts.

Biblical figures show us how to go through our journeys.

Some advice is obvious

But the Texts often talk with symbolism. 

So many people don’t recognize some of these symbols when they see them.

In Proverbs 31, a woman is described as being active from before dawn until after sunset.

She works with eager hands, brings food from afar, wakes up while it is still night to provide for her family, and her lamp does not go out at night.

These simple sentences underline some very important messages.

Firstly, she is a woman of constant activity. 

She’s not sitting idle, she’s working, moving, using her hands, her feet, her strength.

Physical activity is essential for maintaining a healthy weight, strengthening the heart, reducing the risk of many diseases, and promoting mental well-being.

Secondly, she is conscious of her family’s nutrition.

She brings her food from afar, suggesting she searches for the finest, most nutritious food for her family.

In an age of ultra-processed foods and quick meals, this is a reminder to us of the importance of balanced and thoughtful nutrition.

Of course, this is not just about physical health. 

She also shows us the importance of mental and spiritual well-being. 

“She speaks with wisdom, fears the Lord, and extends her hands to the needy.”

This is not just a story, these are guidelines.

Modern science confirms what Christianity hinted at millennia ago. 

Physical health is intertwined with our mental and spiritual health. Optimal physical well-being can nurture a flourishing spirit, and vice versa.

So if we want to care for our health, let us strive to be like the Proverbs 31 woman.

How To Perform A “Holy Detox”

Where you eliminate the harmful toxins from your system?

What if you did the same for your spirit?

Rather than focusing solely on physical cleansing, this divine approach provides you with spiritual renewal and emotional healing. 

It’s a holistic practice that encourages us to pause, reflect, and rekindle our connection with God.

The core of the Holy Detox is prayer. 

Prayer is our direct line of communication with our Heavenly Father.

And it plays a pivotal role in helping us purify our minds, systems, and souls. 

Through prayer, we let God in and ask for His guidance, forgiveness, and strength.

By releasing our fears

Our doubts

And our resentments, we create space for His love, peace, and healing to enter our existence. 

This process of surrender is essential for the Holy Detox.

It allows us to shed the spiritual toxins that impede our growth and well-being.

When you perform the divine cleanse, you also need some moments of solitude and reflection in nature.

By immersing yourself in the beauty of God’s creation, you can quiet your mind.

You will not be distracted, so you’ll be able to foster a deeper connection with our Creator.

These sacred moments in nature help to revitalize our souls and remind us of the grandeur and majesty of the Lord.

So for a few weeks, or however long you need to, take a few hours of your day to connect deeper with God in solitude.

The Holy Detox is a transformative journey that invites us to experience the fullness of God’s love and healing.

By committing ourselves to this divine practice, we can cleanse our spirits and emerge as renewed, vibrant, and spiritually-centered individuals.

How To Plan Your Meals According To The Holy Texts

There is no question about it

Our eating habits are essential for our health.

However, eating right consistently, and consuming every nutrient you need can be tough.

Especially if you don’t have any guidance.

That is why I want to give you easy ways to plan your meals in a way that serves God.

First things first, it’s important to be mindful of what you eat.

When you eat with intention and gratitude, you acknowledge the blessings God has given us.

And by making thoughtful food choices, you demonstrate our commitment to stewardship of the environment and compassion for others.

In faithful meal planning, we strive to select wholesome, natural ingredients that benefit our health but also reflect our values as Christians.

Such foods are fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes, nuts, and seeds, which are mentioned and recommended throughout our holy texts as healthy and nutritious.

Incorporating these foods into your meals will nourish your health and strengthen your spiritual connection with God.

Additionally, it’s important to steer away from processed and artificial foods, as they often contain harmful additives that can be bad for your health.

So this is what you should or shouldn’t eat

But what about how much you should eat?

Well, this is why mindful eating is so important.

Gluttony is a sin.


And we shouldn’t ever overindulge in food.

You have to listen to your natural hunger and fullness signals and quit eating when you feel satisfied, not stuffed.

This seems simple, but a lot of people forget to do it.

And they eat too much without realizing it.

Our hunger levels are controlled by hormones such as ghrelin, and leptin.

God has put these in us for a reason.

To be able to tell when we should eat and how much we eat.

We have to pay attention to our hunger signals and eat in moderation.

We could be talking about the subject of nutrition for days

But in the end, everything boils down to eating whole foods in the way that God has given them to us

And listening to our natural instincts.

So stay mindful of what you eat and prefer natural, wholesome foods over processed ones.

God’s Answer To Overeating

Stress often leads us to seek comfort.

In our relationships. In our households. But most importantly, in our food.

Yes, comfort food is a lot of regular folks’ go-to when they feel anxious. A large bowl of ice cream or a large bag of chips may seem like an excellent remedy for a rough day. 

But before you reach for that snack, there’s something you should know.

A recent report from the Garvan Institute in Sydney has revealed something concerning.

Stress, combined with indulging in high-calorie comfort food, is very dangerous.

It doesn’t just make us gain weight. It also alters our cognitive abilities.

These alterations amplify cravings for sweet, unhealthy food and foster a cycle of overeating.

Once you begin indulging in that behavior, stopping becomes more and more difficult.

You keep craving ultra-processed, unhealthy foods that you find in the supermarkets.

Even though you know it is bad for your system.

It’s a startling finding.

But as followers of Christ, we hold a potent tool to combat this cycle. Prayer.

Scripture encourages us to cast our anxieties on God, for He cares for us. 

When the stress of everyday concerns starts to weigh us down, we shouldn’t instinctively reach for that box of cookies.

Instead, we should reach out to our Heavenly Father in prayer.

Prayer transfers our worries and stresses onto the One who can carry them for us.

The calming effect that this transfer brings reduces our stress levels and curbs the urge to seek solace in food.

The next time you feel the burdens piling up and the pull of the kitchen growing more intense, I challenge you to try a different approach.

Breathe. 

Take a moment. And reach out to God in prayer.

This prayer doesn’t need to be an elaborate ritual. 

A simple conversation with God, sharing your anxieties, and asking for His peace to fill you is more than enough.

You will quickly feel calmer, and the urge to overeat will subside.

How Your Backyard Can Aid Your Fight Against Diabetes

God’s creation is a grand testament to His love for us.

He has given us every tool we need to remain healthy at any age.

I want to talk to you about a profound way to prevent diabetes naturally. Without spending a fortune on medication.

I came across a study from the University of Sydney on a quiet evening after I came back from my church.

I had been praying to God for ways to support my fellow Christians in my congregation.

Diabetes cannot be cured. And once you have it, it can lead to severe health challenges.

I had always been on the lookout for ways to fight it before it even happens.

And last week, our Lord brought this excellent piece of knowledge from the University of Sydney my way.

According to a study they performed there, activities as simple and pleasurable as gardening, brisk walking, or dancing can reduce the risk of diabetes.

By how much?

Well, this is the exciting part.

It minimizes diabetes risk by an astounding 75 percent.

This is what the researchers found when they observed 59,325 adults for seven years.

The author of the study and Associate Professor Melody Ding said his father was also suffering from type 2 diabetes.

So he was especially motivated to find a way to support him and every other person who has this terrible disease.

And his 7-year-old precision bore fruit.

He found that anyone can reduce the risk of diabetes, by simply doing activities like gardening.

Gardening is an excellent way to take care of our health, while also caring for God’s beautiful creations.

As we embrace the physical capacities God has gifted us, we can reduce our risks for diabetes and experience healthier, fuller journeys.

Let us keep this wisdom in mind, and stay active.

Why Prayer Is Even More Important During The Holy Week

As the joyous Easter season is upon us, let us not forget the significance of Holy Week and the role of prayer in that sacred time.

The events of Holy Week remind us that Jesus Himself was no stranger to prayer.

Throughout His earthly ministry, He often withdrew from the crowds to spend time in quiet communion with His Heavenly Father. 

This was especially true during the emotionally and spiritually charged moments of Holy Week.

As Jesus faced the agony of the cross and the weight of our sins, He turned to prayer, demonstrating its vital role in connecting with God.

In the garden of Gethsemane, Jesus prayed fervently, seeking solace and strength from His Father to face the trials ahead.

His passionate plea is a testament to the importance of honest communication with God, even in our darkest moments.

Jesus’ vulnerability in prayer teaches us that it is not a sign of weakness..

But rather an expression of trust and dependence on our Heavenly Father.

As followers of Christ, we have to emulate His example and pray daily.

Prayer allows us to establish and maintain a personal relationship with our Creator, seeking His guidance, strength, and wisdom.

In times of joy and gratitude, we are beckoned to present prayers of thanksgiving.

In times of sorrow, uncertainty, or pain, we can find solace in laying our burdens before Him.

As we reflect on Holy Week, let us be reminded that prayer is more than a ritual or formal requirement.

It is a robust tool that connects us to God, transforming our hearts and minds, and aligning our desires with His divine will.

Let us continue to cultivate a deep and abiding habit of prayer, not just during Holy Week, but in every season of our journey with Christ.

Why Faith Will Always Triumph Over Fear

Fear is a formidable opponent.

It lurks in the shadows of our hearts

Waiting for the opportune moment to cast doubt and stifle our spirit.

It’s a force that can shake our confidence and fill us with uncertainty.

And yet, no matter how paralyzing a situation might feel, our faith will always triumph over it.

You see, fear focuses on surviving. Faith concentrates on living.

When the Devil plants fear in our hearts, we become ensnared in our worries and doubts.

We tend to dwell on the magnitude of our challenges rather than seeking the way out. 

But faith directs our eyes heavenward. 

It reminds us that God surpasses anything we might face.

In our Holy Texts, we see numerous examples of faith conquering fear.

Remember David and Goliath?

David, a young shepherd, faced a giant of a man. If David had given in to fear, he would have been paralyzed, overwhelmed by Goliath’s strength.

But David’s faith in God was mightier than his fear. He knew that with God by his side, he could overcome any obstacle, even a giant.

Similarly, our faith can empower us to confront and overcome our fears. 

It shifts our focus from the challenges at hand to the One who holds everything in His hands.

It allows us to walk boldly into the unknown, secure in the knowledge that God is with us every step of the way.

However, like a muscle, faith needs to be exercised to grow.

By seeking God through prayer, immersing ourselves in His Word, and trusting in His promises, our faith becomes unshakeable.

Every time we choose to lean on God, despite our circumstances, we exercise our faith muscle.

Remember, my friends, fear is a reaction. Faith is a decision.

A reaction is often instinctual and momentary.

But a decision is deliberate. It’s an active choice.

We are faced with that choice every day. We can react to our circumstances with fear, or we can decide to trust God.

So let us choose wisely.

Why Does God Give People Disease?

If you’ve ever had a religious conversation with an atheist, then this question probably came up.

“If there is a God, then why is He giving people cancer?”

Atheists are constantly trying to prove that God doesn’t exist.

But let’s go along with their argument for a while.

What if people didn’t ever become sick?


It sounds nice at first.

But take a moment to picture a world where everyone was healthy…no matter how much they abused their body.

Our actions would be robbed of their meaning.

It wouldn’t matter what we did.

Drinking.

Smoking.

Drugs.

Everything would be the same as living a healthy lifestyle.

And we would quickly not even have a reason to live purely.

Disease, however, is what gives our health meaning.

It allows us to appreciate what we have instead of taking it for granted.

It is the greatest motivator to exercise regularly, sleep 7 to 8 hours every night, and take care of our physical and spiritual health.

And it is how God tests our trust in Him.

When we face challenges, it can often be tempting to become discouraged or even question God’s plan.

However, if we approach these challenges with a positive attitude, they can become opportunities for us to grow in our faith and deepen our relationship with God.

One of the key biblical principles is perseverance.

In James 1:2-4, we are told to consider it pure joy when we face trials, because they test our faith and produce perseverance.

By relying on God’s strength and seeking His guidance during times of struggle, we can build resilience and deepen our trust in Him.

Through our hardships, we learn to be thankful for the blessings in our journeys.

Our loved ones, our health, our possessions, this is how everything gains meaning.

God sends challenges our way because He loves us and wants us to evolve.

So if you are ever faced with health issues, don’t be discouraged.

Be thankful for them.

They are not obstacles.

They are God’s way to allow us to appreciate His blessings to us.

Prayer is an essential part of the Christian faith.

However, many people may not realize that there are different types of prayer and ways to incorporate them into your daily routine.

I’ve gathered every type in this newsletter, so you can easily refer to it in times of need.

  1.  Adoration.

Through adoration, we express our love and worship of God. 

This can be done through singing, reading scripture, or simply meditating on His goodness and greatness. 

A simple way to perform this type of prayer is by starting your day by reading a Psalm or listening to worship music while you’re getting ready for work.

  1. Confession

This is where we acknowledge our sins and ask for forgiveness. 

Everyone needs to set time apart at least a few minutes a day for this.

It can be done either in silence or by sharing them with a loved one or accountability partner.

  1. Thanksgiving

When we perform this type of prayer, we express gratitude for the blessings in our lives. 

You can do that by writing a gratitude list, saying a prayer of thanks before a meal, or simply reflecting on the things you are grateful for throughout the day.

Everyone has things to be grateful for, even if it is hard to see it sometimes.

  1. Intercession 

Through Intercession, we pray for others.

As Christians, we have to help people receive God’s love through our prayers.

Some people haven’t let God in their lives.

Others are going through hardships or diseases.

We need to pray for everyone, just like we do for ourselves.

So think would need your help, and sacrifice some of your time and energy for them.

  1. Supplication

This is when we make requests of God.

You can ask for help with a specific issue you have or simply ask for guidance or wisdom. 

Prayer is a powerful tool for connecting with God and bringing peace and purpose to our lives.

If you incorporate every type in your daily routine, you will quickly see the difference it makes in your mental and physical health.

So try to set some time aside for each one every day.

How Your Faith in Christianity Can Make Your Heart Stronger

We, as followers of Christ, have an incredible fortress at our disposal…

Our faith. 

We’ve been taught not to be anxious, but to let our worries be known to God through prayer and supplication. 

In doing so, a peace that surpasses any understanding will guard our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

One of our greatest tools for combating anxiety is forgiveness.

Holding onto grudges is proven to increase our stress levels, which can detrimentally impact our heart health. 

On the other hand, forgiveness, a cornerstone of our faith, can reduce this stress and encourage a peaceful state of mind.

Forgiveness is not just about absolving others of their wrongdoings.

It’s about freeing ourselves from the chains of resentment that bind us, chains that place undue stress on our hearts.

When we forgive, we create an environment of peace and love within us, which promotes improved physical health.

Jesus Himself set the greatest example of forgiveness on the cross.

In the midst of pain and betrayal, He chose to forgive.

His words, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing,” echo in our hearts, reminding us of the power and necessity of forgiveness.

Practicing forgiveness is not always easy. It requires humility and strength.

But it’s important to remember that we’re not alone in this process. 

We can always seek God’s help in prayer, asking Him to give us the strength to forgive just as He forgives us.

As we practice forgiveness, we are guarding our hearts from the potential effects of stress and anxiety.

Let us continue walking God’s path, and enjoy the health benefits along the way.

Heavenly Father,
Author and Giver of Peace,

We ask your blessing and mercy upon
Our soldiers, veterans,
Men and women protecting home
And country.

Answering the call to action,
Willing to fight even bitter conflict
Fighting for our lives and freedoms,
Prepared to give their lives,

In serving us they serve you well.

Heavenly Father,

Thank you for your blessings,
Upon our veterans, our soldiers, upon us all.

Reward abundantly their sacrifice.

Grant them peace of mind,

O God, by whose mercy the faithful departed find rest, look kindly on your departed veterans who gave their lives in the service of their country. Grant that through the passion, death, and resurrection of your Son they may share in the joy of your heavenly kingdom and rejoice in you with your saints forever. We ask this through Christ our Lord.

We must remember those who fought the battle and have lost their lives for our freedom. Prayers for veterans will provide comfort to their souls as they cross over to the heavenly kingdom and rejoice with their creator Jesus Christ. No matter how long it’s been, it’s important that we communicate with those lost veterans through prayer and share with them our many thanks for their sacrifices that will never be repaid. Through our prayers for veterans, the average person here on earth has the ability to reach out and connect with those who’ve lost their lives and our now guardian angels from above.

3 Veteran’s Day Prayer: A Prayer for the Military Community

Almighty God, Lord of Hosts, we call out to you as the One who is sovereign over all. Watch over and protect our nation’s military members and their families. Sustain them with your everlasting arms.

Take into your most gracious protection our service members currently deployed. May you be their comfort and their guide as they live and walk in a foreign land. Give them reassurance that you are a shield around them, an ever-present help in time of need. Grant our service members courage so that in all things they may serve without reproach. Encourage them while they also encourage one another.

As they serve around the world, we ask that you guard their families and loved ones back home. Provide them with peace and surround them with love as they mourn the absence of their loved one and long for their return. May they find hope and strength in you for the trials of each new day. Be with military children who endure the difficult burden of knowing their father or mother is in harm’s way for months on end. Guard these children’s hearts and minds despite the loneliness and uncertainty of having a parent deployed.

Lord God, be with marriages in the military. Preserve the bonds of husband and wife despite the stress that military life brings, stress only compounded by the decade of war our nation is in. Help military chaplains in their efforts to equip military marriages with ways to stay connected and communicate effectively despite the challenge of frequent deployments. Give husbands and wives strength and resilience to endure separations, frequent moves, and all the uncertainty military life brings.

For some, Lord, service takes their toll permanently in physical and emotional damage. For those wounded in battle, we pray you would come beside them.. Sustain and strengthen them amidst treatment, pain, and adjustments to life with an injury. Help them to find competent care and support, and to not be afraid to reach out for a helping hand or a listening ear. Be with their caregivers in the demanding role they have. Give caregivers renewed energy to offer support and love as they tend to the needs of the injured. Strengthen them as they both monitor and advocate for their loved one.

We know that war is very costly. Some have made the ultimate sacrifice, laying down their precious lives in service to our nation. Each one of them was a son or daughter, perhaps a husband or wife, father or mother. For all those who feel the pain and the toll of this war in the loss of their loved one, comfort them. Be a father to the fatherless and defender of widows. As they cast their cares on you, may they know the consolation of your love. We thank you for the freedoms these service members fought for which we enjoy today.

For each and every veteran who has served our country through the years, we thank you for their sacrifice. Comfort those who struggle in life after war. Help us to honor and care for those who have given so much for us.

Be with our nation’s leaders as well, and all those who make decisions for our military. Give them wisdom and discernment in everything they do.

Father God, we long for the day when swords will be beaten into plowshares and spears into pruning hooks. We long for your peace, for your shalom.

In Christ’s name we pray, Amen.

Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good! For His mercy endures forever.”

Oftentimes the good and bad in war can be misconstrued. The intentions of a soldier in combat can be forgotten because of the actions that take place during war. It’s important to remember the sacrifice that man has offered when we share prayers for veterans. The Lord will never forget the actions and intentions behind war – instead our Savior identifies the selfless act and the person that embodies those actions. Jesus Christ sacrificed Himself for His children – so that all sins would forever be forgiven. When uttering prayers remember that. Remember that our Savior is on our veteran’s side because He, too, was on the battlefield fighting for their allegiance and providing unconditional mercy.

Gracious God, we give thanks for military men and women, both from the past and present, and for their courageous service and sacrifice to our country and its people to secure the blessings of life, liberty, and justice for all. While you and I may not be veterans, we can still find comfort in Psalm 144 because our prayers for veterans are instilling God’s love and guidance by reassuring the shield that Jesus Christ offers each and every one of us. A veteran may have seen unthinkable tragedy however, it’s imperative that he or she understands and accepts that their Lord and Savior will forever provide refuge. For a soldier, it can be easily forgotten that Christ is also shielding them and acting on their behalf. While they march on enemy lines, the negativity can take over. Therefore, it’s important that we recite prayers for veterans who may not otherwise know that they have a support system that’s rooting them on.

7 Veteran’s Day Prayer: Prayer for Our Soldiers

Lord, We lift up prayer for those who lead and direct our soldiers. May their daily decisions bring powerful protection and abundant provision to our men and women in uniform. Amen.

Whether a veteran is physically in battle or just mentally, we mustn’t forget the price that they’ve all paid. Some veterans have found salvation from their post-traumatic stress disorder however, others haven’t. When you utter prayers for veterans remember that a soldier’s work is never done. Even though they may not be physically on the front lines their mind and soul may still be there. All in all, it’s important to pray for protection for the men and women in uniform. It’s important to not forget their sacrifice. We shouldn’t categorize their prayers in representation of a holiday or celebration. Instead these prayers for our soldiers should be recited every day.

Beautiful Mother’s Day Prayer to Share with Mom on Sunday

For all of us Christians that are lucky enough to still have our mom’s in our lives, let’s do our absolute best to make they have the BEST mother’s day possible this Sunday!

My grandmother recently passed away, so this will be the first year my mom won’t have a mother to call up or spend time with on Mother’s Day, so I’m going to do my best to make sure she has a beautiful day.

I’m so grateful that Mother’s Day always falls on a Sunday so that I can attend church with my mom on her day, it’s just a great way to start the holiday!

Other than attending church services with my entire family on Mother’s Day, one of the best ways to enjoy this holiday is by having a nice breakfast, lunch, or dinner with your mom where she does nothing but enjoy the meal with her family, so if you cook, or go out to a restaurant, here’s a wonderful prayer you may want to share with your mom:

“Lord, thank you for all mothers. For the new ones, who endure sleepless nights with infants in arms.

For the busy ones, who juggle the pressures of home and family life.

For the steadfast ones, who nurture and care for our special vulnerable children.

For the patient ones, who always seek to forgive and engage with their pre-teens. For the persistent ones, who cleverly find new ways to connect with their mini-adults.

For the mother aunts, who step in to cradle and care for nieces and nephews.
For all grandmas, who love and support their precious grandchildren. For the foster mothers that are called to gather and cover the fragile ones. – Amen”

Please give your mothers the biggest hugs and kisses on Sunday…and oh yeah, you should also get her a nice flower arrangement because moms love getting flowers!

How Can Christians Learn to Pray Confidently

Prayer can seem intimidating if we lack confidence that God will really listen to our prayers and answer them. We may see prayer as an obligation rather than an opportunity – and end up not praying much, then feeling guilty. If we learn to pray confidently, though, we can enjoy the process of praying, because we’ll wake up to God’s presence with us there.

What Does it Really Mean to Pray Confidently?

Praying confidently means trusting that God will meet us in prayer because he cares about us. 1 John 5:14-15 assures us that we can pray to our loving God with confidence: “And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him.” It’s possible to pray confidently because God will listen to us with love and answer us according to his will, which reflects his great wisdom and power.

All we need to do is show up, do our best to communicate with God, and then trust God to respond in the best ways and in the best timing. The more we devote ourselves to prayer, the more we can develop the trust we need to do so.

Here are five ways Christians can learn to pray confidently:

  1. Approach God with reverence and humility:

If any sin in our lives has distanced us from God, we may lack the confidence to pray. John 9:31 reveals, “We know that God does not listen to sinners, but if anyone is a worshiper of God and does his will, God listens to him.” We should be reverent and humble when approaching our awesome God, confessing our sins and accepting God’s help and forgiveness so we’ll be able to come into his holy presence with a clear mind and an open heart. We can confess directly to God: “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9). We can also confess to our brothers and sisters in Christ: “Therefore, confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.” (James 5:16). Once we’ve dealt with any sins we need to confess, we can be confident in approaching God with our prayers. “Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence before God” 1 John 3:21 assures us.

  1. Let go of formulas:

We don’t need to worry about following any formulas when we pray. God will still accept our prayers if we don’t use formal language when we speak or if we don’t sit still with our eyes closed. God will still listen and respond if our thoughts are unorganized or our emotions are raw. God will meet us where we are when we simply pray naturally, and his Spirit will help us express what we’re truly longing to pray. As Romans 8:26 assures us, “… the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.” We don’t need formulaic methods of praying; all we need is a genuine desire to communicate with God.

  1. Try out creative possibilities:

We can feel free to try praying in new ways that shake up our prayer routines. The creative possibilities for expressing our prayers are unlimited, and include writing, drawing, singing, and dancing. We can pray silently anytime and anywhere, such as while driving, walking, or cooking. What’s most important is that we pray in ways that truly get us excited about communicating with God.

  1. Listen as well as talk:

Prayer should be a two-sided conversation between us and God. So, after we talk to God, we need to listen to what God may have to say to us. God promises in Jeremiah 33:3: “Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and incomprehensible things you do not know.” By quieting our minds and focusing on hearing from God, we can discern messages that the Holy Spirit sends into our minds during prayer.

  1. Expect big answers from our great God:

We can also develop more confidence as we pray by expanding our prayers. Rather than only praying small prayers (for situations that don’t require much help from God to change) pray big prayers (asking God to intervene in situations and do what only he can do). We can remove limitations from our prayers, keeping in mind that God “… is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us” (Ephesians 3:20). Invite God to do something greater than what we can do ourselves, in each situation we present to God in prayer. Dare to ask for big answers from our big God! As Jesus encourages us in Matthew 7:7, “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.”

The ability to communicate with our Creator in prayer is a blessing that we can embrace with confidence. Learning to pray confidently will move us closer to our loving God who always wants to meet with us. As Hebrew 4:16 says, “Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.” Let’s look forward to the wonder we can discover during our prayer times with God!

All Christians Need to Embrace the Power of Prayer

When the disciples walked the earth with Jesus, they had the privilege of being able to ask him any question they wanted. (We have that same privilege as well.) But of all the things that they asked Jesus, one of the things that sticks out above the others is when they asked him to teach them to pray.

“One day Jesus was praying in a certain place. When he finished, one of his disciples said to him, ‘Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples’” (Luke 11:1).

What is it about prayer, or what is the power of prayer, that would cause the disciples to want to learn how to do it correctly? A basic definition of the power prayer is when you invite heaven’s resources to intervene in your earthly situation. Since heaven’s resources are unlimited, then you are inviting the omnipotent God into the equation and asking him to fix or do something about your circumstance. When you grasp that, then you are getting hold of what the power of prayer is.

What Does the Bible Say about the Power of Prayer?
There are numerous scriptures throughout the Bible that encourage us to pray and highlight the true power that is in prayer. Here are just two.

“Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble,
and he brought them out of their distress.
He stilled the storm to a whisper; the waves of the sea were hushed. They were glad when it grew calm, and he guided them to their desired haven”

(Psalm 107:28-30).

“’Now, Lord, consider their threats and enable your servants to speak your word with great boldness. Stretch out your hand to heal and perform signs and wonders through the name of your holy servant Jesus.’ After they prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly” (Acts 4:28-30).

From these two verses and so many others, you can see that one of the powers in prayer is when God’s people ask for his help in their current situation.

Why Is Prayer So Powerful?
There is an old expression that says, “God helps those who help themselves.” Many people think this is in the Bible, but it is not. Not only is this not in the Bible, but this is also not really true. If you hold onto this type of thinking you will nullify prayer’s power.

When you think about what the real power of prayer is, it is not coming from a person who believes they can help themselves, but from a person who knows they can’t.

In the gospel of Luke, Jesus told this parable, and when you understand it you will understand what the power of prayer is.

“To some who were confident of their own righteousness and looked down on everyone else, Jesus told this parable: ‘Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. The Pharisee stood by himself and prayed: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other people—robbers, evildoers, adulterers—or even like this tax collector. I fast twice a week and give a tenth of all I get.’

‘But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, ‘God, have mercy on me, a sinner.’

I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted’” (Luke 18:9-14).

There is a stark difference between these two men praying. One came with full confidence, knowing he had done everything right and his praying was just the icing on the cake of his self-righteousness. The other one could barely lift his eyes toward heaven, yet he is the one that experienced the power in prayer. There were two simple but important reasons why:

  1. Reality

If there is a key to experiencing power in prayer, it is making sure you pray from a place of reality. What I mean by this is that you don’t hide the truth of your situation and how you feel about it.

One reason we never have real times of breakthrough in prayer is because we often approach God like the Pharisee, either falsely believing we have it all together or thinking we must get it together before we approach God, because “God helps those who help themselves.” The truth is you need to come to God just the way you are, bring the situation just the way it is and be open, real, and honest before God. This is what God wants from you and when you do this, you position yourself to experience the real power in prayer.

  1. Humility

I mentioned earlier that statement about God helping those who help themselves. The truth is the opposite. God helps those who realize they can’t help themselves – those who cry out to him for his help. When you invite heaven’s resources into your situation, that means you are acknowledging that what you have is not enough.

If you are repenting of sin, you are admitting you don’t have enough righteousness on your own.

If you are praying for opportunities, you are admitting you can’t create them on your own.

If you are praying for wisdom, you are admitting you don’t have all the answers.

It does not matter what you are praying for, when you humble yourself and recognize that without God’s help this is not going to happen, then you have positioned yourself to know and experience what the power of prayer really is.

Does Prayer Physically Aid Us?

As great as the spiritual benefits are from prayer, there have been studies that show there are physical ones as well. Admittedly this is not my area of expertise, but here is information from a 2009 study:

“A 2009 study by Koenig and colleagues found that six weekly in-person Christian prayer sessions with patients at a primary care office lowered their depression and anxiety symptoms and increased their optimism.”

Because God understands fully all the benefits of prayer, it is no surprise that he would encourage us to do it. It is why verses like this make more sense.

“Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you” (1 Peter 5:7).

As these patients continued in prayer, their anxieties and worries were lowered. This happens because in prayer, they transferred their anxieties from themselves to God and allowed him to carry them.

In prayer God is not just concerned about your need, he is concerned about you as well. Part of the reason God desires you to pray is because he knows it is good for your health. The things you let go of and give to God are not only good for your spirit, but they are also good for your body and mind too. This is a power of prayer that we most certainly overlook.

Is There Anything Prayer Cannot Do?

As powerful as prayer is, there is one thing that prayer, faith, or anything else can’t do. Prayer cannot supersede or override the will of God. You can pray as much as you want, for as long as you want, and with as much faith as you can muster, but it will not change what God has willed to do. For this reason, one of the most powerful weapons in prayer is agreement with God’s will. Not only are we encouraged to pray God’s will be done (think the Lord’s prayer) we are also assured that when we pray according to God’s will, he will do what we are praying for.

“This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him” (1 John 5:14-15).

When we consider this verse, we get an even better understanding of the power of prayer. The real power of prayer is when your will and desires come into alignment with God’s will and desires. When this happens, there is nothing that God will not do in answer to prayer because your prayers are already aligned with what he wants to do in the first place.
